Is there any worse feeling than sitting in your house on the hottest day of the year and waiting for your air conditioning repair guy? Nothing in life is guaranteed, but with a few quick tips from our experts, the likeliness of this happening to you can drastically be reduced. Read on!
1. Clean or Replace the Filter – Remove the filter and if it looks dirty, either rinse it with a hose or write down the information on the frame (or just take it with you) and go to your nearest supply store and purchase a new one.
2. TURN OFF THE POWER and check the wires – Just make sure that you don’t see any signs of overheating. If this is occurring, you may see melted or blackened wires. If you see this and don’t feel comfortable replacing these yourselves, call an expert to fix these wires BEFORE you end up with a problem!
3. Go Outside and Take a Look at the Condenser Unit – Are the blades in good shape? Is the unit clear of dirt, leaves and branches? If not, take a hose and wash it down (don’t use a power washer) and trim away any bushes that may be in contact with the unit. If it’s time for a new condenser, click here.
4. Last But Not Least, Check the Thermostat – Is it working properly? If it’s an older unit. you may want to consider replacing it. The new programmable units save money and energy!
Although spring is the IDEAL time to do these checks, better to check them off now than when you have issue. And if any of these suggestions sound out of your league, call your local professional. Click here for our recommended list of professionals in your area.
