Every year, thousands of the top bath and kitchen professionals attend the National Bath & Kitchen Association’s (NKBA) prestigious Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas. Our representatives at Crawford Supply Group joined the 23,916 industry professionals in attendance this year at the sold-out show. We checked out over 500 exhibits at this show, which showcased the hottest bath and kitchen products of 2014. Read on for a condensed version of the top KBIS bath and kitchen trends of 2014:
Instantly increase your bath and kitchen storage with smart, compartmentalized solutions. In the kitchen, drying towel racks, pots & pans drawers, pull-out wire baskets, and roll-out spice rack and utensil trays were displayed at KBIS. Whether you’re looking to make the most of a smaller kitchen space or you’re preparing intricate meals in a commercial-grade kitchen, the right storage drawers and accessories reduce clutter and meal prep time.
Bathroom storage accessories included wastebasket drawers, door-hung baskets for toiletries, cosmetics storage solutions, and pull-out trays for grooming objects. Medicine cabinets contained LED lighting and smaller compartments to handily store smaller toiletries.
No longer a rarity in the building/remodeling world, the topic of universal design was hot on everyone’s lips this KBIS. Universal design is a design principle in which a product or environment is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of height, mobility, age, and ability. Many KBIS products featured a simplified, easy-to-use design to support the multi-generational family of today.
2014’s bath and kitchen feature retro designs with an innovative twist. A throwback to the Midcentury-Modern era, KBIS’s kitchen includes bold colors, linear details, minimalistic designs, and wooden panels. However, while the look may be vintage, the functionality of fixtures and appliances certainly isn’t—again, we see, touchless faucets that save water, floating shelves that save valuable space, and LED lighting that saves electricity.
KBIS 2014 bathrooms, too, utilized the airy ambience of modern green design. Floating vanities and wall-hung toilets were on the rise, creating a striking look that also makes it easier to wipe down the bathroom. Freestanding, space-saving tubs rose in popularity on the showroom floor. Medicine cabinets featured LED lighting for easy retrieval of bath products. For the water-conserving crowd, environmentally-friendly showers and touchless faucets made their appearance here.
Organic, uncluttered spaces populated the KBIS 2014 showroom floor. Bean-shaped freestanding tubs and sinks, clean-lined faucets, and walls and tiles made of stone defined the “contemporary and clean” look. Soft, neutral grays and browns of similar shades helped bathrooms appear larger. Simple wooden vanities created a clean, linear contrast the otherwise raw, natural designs.
In the kitchen, polished countertop surfaces and wood grain cabinets created a contemporary-rustic look. LED task lighting under the upper cabinets make kitchen tasks easier and energy efficient. The kitchen of 2014 is largely uncluttered, thanks to appliance drawers and smart storage solutions.
