The days of opera-lighting, trifold medicine cabinets are over! Say “hello” to the surprising and organized world of medicine cabinets.
There are two main types of medicine cabinets, surface mounted and recessed. Surface mounted medicine cabinets are attached to the wall like a picture frame, except they are approximately 4 inches in depth. However, surface mounted cabinets have been tastefully revamped with mirrored sides (who doesn’t like another perspective?), matched to your cabinetry, or lighted. Recessed medicine cabinets are installed within the wall. The minimal thickness of the door rests on the wall. Recessed medicine cabinets have also been updated with lights or frames.
Exciting and useful features of medicine cabinets include:
–Nightlights: great for the midnight bathroom break
–Magnetic strips: for your tweezers, scissors, nail clippers, or eye glasses
–Fog free: for the in-shower shaver
–In glass light: to achieve that five-star contemporary hotel feel
–Magnetic strip: to charge your toothbrush, razor, straightener, ipod, etc.
–TV and music players: because you have little time in the morning to get ready and informed
Even the way medicine cabinets open can be surprising. Unlike the old open-out-from-the-center doors, another option is raising it up like a garage door. Don’t forget, though, that you need a tall ceiling for this option. Robern sells this option. Kohler is another great brand to choose.
If you’re spending time and money on a bathroom remodel, a medicine cabinet should absolutely be considered. Four inches of storage might not seem like much, but consider all of those little bottles of face wash, lotion, and medicines that would otherwise end up in the bottom back corner of your vanity drawer.
